The book Persepolis is a historical book about the Islamic revolution in Iran, and I like it because it tells the story from the perspective of a little girl who had been through this herself, instead of repeating the story told by the government and newspapers at that time. Marjane Satrapi, the author, an Iranian who stayed in France. Satrapi wrote this story about herself, and this story is all about her childhood memory in Iran. At that time, it was the most unstable time Iran ever had. It was the time that Islamic revolution, the Iran-Iraq war, and the Iran hostage crisis happened. During that time, the world put their attention on how Iran changed, and they were afraid of what would happen tomorrow. "What about the hostage", "How was the war". But no one really care what happened to the common people during those revolutions.
The author, as a little girl, was the granddaughter of a king. But the old government felled and during the story period, Iran ruled by a cruel and arrogant king. The king arrested everyone who against him. However, Marjane thought her schoolbook was right that the king was chosen by the god, who was always right, to rule the whole country. Until she knew his grandfather has been killed by the king, then she turned to against the king and started unconvincing the god. She was a girl who would say everything came form her heart. But luckily or unluckily, the king chose to abdicate, then the Islamic government raised, and which they thought was "it’s better to be feared than to be loved." Then a whole new government, which was 10 times crueler than the old one, began.
As a young girl she did not know what happened and what would happen, and how cruel the world was. She ever thought cut a human in to piece would look like a broken toy. And she did not know when the people, who has been released from the old government would be killed by the new one. She used to think the new government was right, until her uncle Anoosh has been killed, Anoosh was the person who was one of the people she loved the most. What left was only the bread swan and what he always said, "everything will be alright".
Sadly, things just get worse. More and more rules have been created. Females and the males should not get too close. And the women should were the veil again. People were truly afraid of the government, and at the same time the Iran-Iraq war start. More and more people, who were been defined as dangerous people, were sent to the battlefield by the government and the only ending given to them was death. More and more poor children got the key of the heaven, which meant they should die for the country, but the way to their death was go to the battlefield unarmed, and killed by the land mine.
Over all, this book was an excellent book to read, which showed how a little girl watch the cruel world, when people blew up others and tried to kill others. No one would stay childish.
